Doc Let lies north of Nha Trang in Ninh Hoa, about an hour’s drive. The name comes from having to scramble down a steep sand ridge to reach the water — the ridge is still there, and it is what gives the beach its character.
The sand here is noticeably whiter and finer than the city beaches. The shallows run a long way out; in places you can wade a hundred metres and still be waist-deep, which is why families with small children favour it.
Given the distance, Doc Let is usually treated as its own day trip rather than folded into a city itinerary. Riding out on the coastal highway is the common way, and the road itself is worth the trip.
The area sits near the Hon Khoi salt fields — worth a stop if you come early, while the salt workers are out and the light is still low.
Some practicalities: parts of the beach belong to resorts and charge admission, while the public stretches are free but thinner on facilities. The long shallows mean that swimming properly takes you a good way from shore, and at that distance nobody is watching you — worth weighing if you are on your own.
